(no specific order)

President

The role of the student council president is to over see the executive, to make sure the house of representatives business is followed, and call all exec and class rep meetings.

Sohier Welch

About Sohier: I am a great comunicator and get things done. I also am willing to make compromises and will always listen when people give me advice.
Why are you running?: I’m running because I believe that I can make a difference and that this is the best way to do that.
What differentiates you from other candidates?: I am great at working under pressure thanks to the almost constant technical problems NSS Air has tossed at me.
Best experience at Northern: My best experience would have to be when my history class had waffle Wednesday this year just because I asked.
Whats your top priority: My top priority would be to make the SAC more accessible and organized by making it more fun and using social media more.
Fun Fact: I have pictures of waffle Wednesday.
If you were a new addition to a crayon box what would you be and why?: I wouldn’t be a crayon I’d be the little sharpener in the box because even though I’m only a small part of the whole thing I make it a million times better.

Miles Moser

About Miles: I’m an avid photographer, athlete, & musician. I love trying new things and I love being busy. I’m curious and ready to dedicate my time and energy towards anything that comes my way.
Why are you running?: I’m running because I want to make a difference for Northern next year. I believe that my knowledge of our school and commitment to it can lead me to make great changes to Northern while keeping everything we already love about it.
What differentiates you from other candidates?: I am unique. Normal to me is boring, and while yes, sometimes normal is all that is needed, I want to make Northern more unique within the TDSB, I want
Best experience at northern: Northern has given me many amazing experiences such as my first buddy retreat, playing in a squash tournament a week or two ago, and performing at Roy Thomson Hall but my best experience has to be Saxograms. Every year we raise hundreds of dollars for charity while bursting into classrooms to play whatever songs have been requested.
Whats your top priority: I want everyone’s voices to be heard and I want everyone to be involved. I have other plans such as those to provide associations with a much more in depth knowledge of the budget to avoid accidents and loss of funding but, in my mind, there is nothing more important than that the SAC represent the student body and help it get as involved in any and all areas of the school possible.
Fun Fact: I speak 3 languages fluently and understand 4 (accents are hard, sorry)
If you were a new addition to a crayon box what would you be and why?: Coquelicot because I like being unique and I really like the colour.
Anything else to say to the people of NSS: Northern has given me incredible opportunities over the past 3 years in no small part due to a handful of very involved and dedicated individuals. I want to be one of those individuals for younger Northern Students, I want to help make someone love the arts, athletics, or even student council. Help me help those people.

Vice President

The role of the VP is to be the second in command to the president, chair senate meetings and appoint necessary senators and to chair the next years elections committee.

Serena Lunsky

About Serena: I guess I’m just spiritually an albino raccoon shuffling through a dentist’s garbage can. Also, I don’t watch hockey. Go Leaves!
Why are you running?: It seemed like a good idea at the time… Also, I really care about the Northern School community and making our school more open to everyone.
What differentiates you from other candidates?:Particularly this year, I am the only girl and the only grade 11 running for VP. In general, I care too much about the unimportant things, so imagine how much I’ll care about the important things! (Probably a lot, for the people who don’t know me.)
Whats your top priority: Allowing people who don’t have positions on school government to propose bills and ideas to the SAC at Class Rep or Senate meetings. Also horses. Don’t know what I’m gonna do with them, but I’ll do something.
Fun Fact: I’m sixteen years old, and yet I still manage to spell tommorrow wrong.
If you were a new addition to a crayon box what would you be and why?: Red. I like red. It’s a good colour. Strawberries, the Canadian flag, Mars, sheep’s blood, rubies, a lot of good things are red.
Anything else to say to the people of NSS: Don’t let teachers trick you. According to TDSB regulations, they can only deduct late marks as a last resort for students who repeatedly hand things in late. Be, as the kids say, awoken.

Liv Segal

About Liv: I’m someone who has diverse interests. I play on a rep basketball team, but love to play other sports in my free time. However, I also love to play mind games such as chess. I’m fairly flexible and enjoy trying new things.
Why are you running?: I really feel that I could make a unique impact on the school.
What differentiates you from other candidates?: I’m overwhelming devoted. When I set my mind to something it will be accomplished no matter what it takes. An example of this is in grade 9 I wanted to graduate by the time I was 16. By this time next year that will come to fruition.
Best experience at Northern: My best experience at Northern would have to be after my first week at the school when I realized how much independence I had. The structure of the class has really helped me preform. While that may not be the most interesting answer, I was coming from a school where everything was extremely structured and it stressed me out a lot. So I really enjoyed having that weight lifted off my shoulders.
Whats your top priority: My top priority would be to make student life costs cheaper. That includes school trips, athletics, and transportation.
Fun Fact: My real name is Olivier. It’s french and usually when people try and say it always comes out as Oliver.
If you were a new addition to a crayon box what would you be and why?: Blue. No elaborate explanation for this one, just I love the colour.
Anything else to say to the people of NSS: Formal: While I don’t have a lot of experience on Sac I have had multiple leadership roles at other schools that I will highlighted in my speech.
Non Formal: I want to make this next year the best is can possibly be so please give me the opportunity to change this school for the better. Remember (yes I know my tagline is cheesy but…) Liv for Today and Liv for Tomorrow!

Cooper McCrory

About Cooper: I’m Cooper McCrory, I’ve been the grade 9 and 10 senator and I’ve been on the constitutional reform committee. I’ve also been involved in Northern drama and music throughout my time here! I’m also a Leo and I enjoy long walks on the beach.
Why are you running?: I’ve worked really hard for this school since I arrived, and I hope that through this position I can help further my involvement in our school!
What differentiates you from other candidates?: I think I’m differentiated by the fact that I’m committed to student ideas. I think more than the 6 members of the SAC exec should have creative input on the school. To achieve this, I will create a suggestion box. Where students can leave their questions, comments, concerns, or anything they think the SAC should know! Plus I can juggle!
Best experience at Northern: My best experience at northern so far, is definitely the friends I’ve made through northern. I’ve made plenty of friends through classes, extra curriculars and student council.
Whats your top priority: As stated my top priority would be incouraging student involvement with the creation of a suggestion box!
Fun Fact: Despite being Irish I am very allergic to potatoes.
If you were a new addition to a crayon box what would you be and why?: I think I’d be a nice shade of yellow. It’s just a really good colour that I think fits my personality.
Anything else to say to the people of NSS: I hope you’re having a lovely day!

Treasurer

The role of the Treasurer is to distribute money to clubs and associations, to create the budget and follow to budget act.

ISD

The role of the Internal Social Director is to approve club and association charters, maintain communication between the exec and the clubs and to plan spirt days.

Ethan Caplan

About Ethan: I’m a fun guy, with a upbeat attitude. I always think of good things rather than bad thing. I want to make people happy always and I follow NSS memes and I’ve once sent in a meme. I like the office, friends and recently have started to watch Seinfeld and Game of Thrones.
Why are you running?: Cause I feel like it. Also because I think that we need to have more involvement within the school. People at this school need to get fired up for school events more.
What differentiates you from other candidates?: I’m not gifted and I’m pretty short.
Best experience at Northern: Definitely going to the Toronto Islands and nature walks in grade 11 environmental science (totally recommend to everyone).
Whats your top priority: To make sure we have a fun welcome back to school activity.
Fun Fact: I’m just as comfortable at a ball game as I am in class.
If you were a new addition to a crayon box what would you be and why?: A mix of Blue and and purple. Because it’s the best colour combo name another one I’ll wait.
Anything else to say to the people of NSS: CAP FOR SAC vs Everybody

Ria Prakash

About Ria: I moved around a lot as a kid, and Northern has definitely been one of my favourite schools out of the many that I’ve been to. I lived in Hong Kong before moving back to Toronto, and I only came to Northern in grade 10 (because my middle school had grade 9)
Why are you running?: I really love being involved in all the cool activities and events that Northern is a part of, and I want to be able to share my ideas with the rest of the school to enjoy as well!!
What differentiates you from other candidates?: I already have a bunch of ideas for new events that can be held at Northern next year, and I have experience with the past events as I participated in last year’s SacStock. I have the student council experience of schools across the world, and I’m hard-working, dedicated, and always get my work done on time.
Best experience at Northern: If I had to just choose one, I think I’d say either just being on cross country in general or the GAA retreat to Kilcoo.
Whats your top priority: Definitely approving all clubs with sufficient interest first, and then planning fun, new events for the students next!!
Fun Fact: I’ve lived in 5 different countries across 3 continents!!
If you were a new addition to a crayon box what would you be and why?: Turquoise!!! It’s the best colour!!!!!
Anything else to say to the people of NSS: :)))))

ESD

The role of the External Social Director is to be in charge of the two SAC Stores and Grad hoodies and is responsible for all events outside of the school, like prom!

Miah Gomez-Carty

About Miah: Hey there, I’m Miah Gomez I’m a grade 11 currently and running for ESD. I’ve been going to northern for all of high school, and I’ve really enjoyed my time here. I’m on the Northern Girls Rugby team, which is like a second family. I am very well driven person, and very work oriented and I promise to do as much as I can to make sure that northern has the best year next year.
Why are you running?: I’m running for this position because I know I can bring so much to the table. I know many people want to go out and have fun but don’t know where to go. I want to be the person that gives you the opportunity to go out and make all these amazing memories. High school should be a place where you enjoy going, not dread going. I want to provide people with the outlet to let loose and have a great time with amazing people.
What differentiates you from other candidates?: I have a crazy drive. I want to make this happen and I will do everything I can to make the student body have the best year (social wise) this also isn’t just a goal or for a university application, I genuinely care and feel that everyone has worked so hard and that we all deserve to have a little fun.
Best experience at Northern: Joining the rugby team has been an experience that is still going on. I’ve been on the team since grade 9 and every year with new players and all it’s always so amazing. This team has really been there for me, it’s just a group of so many different people that it allows you to have the perfect balance.
Whats your top priority: My number one priority is student involvement. I feel we can only get so far with just a portion of the student body. If the school works together and forgets about grades and labels, we could have an amazing year with incredible memories that everyone could share.
Fun Fact: While I was growing up I broke my right arm about four times, I was a very clumsy kid 🙂
If you were a new addition to a crayon box what would you be and why?: Royal blue. I chose royal blue because I feel it’s a very underrated colour and many people forget about it. This colour in my opinion is very multifunctional because I think it works with everyone. In my perspective there isn’t one person that royal blue doesn’t compliment. This colour looks phenomenal on anyone.
Anything else to say to the people of NSS: Our year, our time, your vote 🙂

Best experience at Northern:I don’t have a favourite! I feel that with every new club or team I join I have new experiences that are amazing but all so different and special in their own ways!
Whats your top priority: My top priority would be getting the opinions of the students. I feel that since every student has an opinion they should be able to voice it. This means that I would be open the students submitting designs for the SAC store or ideas for prom and so much more!
Fun Fact: I’ve donated my hair 5 times for cancer and I have 13 nalgene water bottles! Two very different facts but both are pretty fun!
If you were a new addition to a crayon box what would you be and why?: Yellow! Yellow is such a happy colour and never fails to make me smile. It’s the colour of sunshine, sunflowers, lemons, and one of Northern’s three colours 🙂

Myia Blanchet

What differentiates you from other candidates?: The fact that I’m running for secretary.

Best experience at Northern: Seeing the Danny DeVito shrine.
Whats your top priority: I will prioritize listening and sharing all information.
Fun Fact: My favourite shape is a diamond!! (I know it’s called a rhombus but I don’t care)
If you were a new addition to a crayon box what would you be and why?: I would be a mix of all of the other colours so it would actually look really bad if someone used it, but then they could say they used every colour and really confuse people. It would be called “strange rainbow”.
Anything else to say to the people of NSS: Vote for me please!!

Sierra Benayon-Abraham

About Sierra: I do competitive gymnastics and I love to sing! I have a puppy named Havana and she is my favourite thing in the world!

Grade 12
