Welcome to the official website of the Northern Secondary School Student Affairs Council (NSS SAC)! Here you can find info on upcoming SAC events, the SAC executive, clubs, and more!
TDSB schools will be closed to in-person learning from 2021-04-07 for at least 2 weeks [^1] [^2].
The second week is the “April break” (moved from March to April) [^1] [^2].
According to the Globe and Mail, “[an] announcement [about this situation] is expected Tuesday afternoon”.
Thank you to the SAC Vice President for reporting this to the Webmaster.
An email [^4] from the TDSB was sent to parents about this.
[^3]: The title of [^1] says Wednesday, but the 4th paragraph says Tuesday.
Turn on 2FA. It may help protect account(s) from hackers. It may not, but it’s better safe than sorry. Having 2FA will only have minor inconveniences, as with many security measures.
Benefits: 2FA may protect your account even if your password is compromised.
Inconveniences: you may need a phone to sign in and it may take a few more seconds to sign in.
What is 2FA, Why Use It and How Does it Protect my Account(s)?
2FA (Two Factor Authentication) is a way to protect your account(s) from unauthorized access. They are many ways to verify a sign in attempt that are called 2FA. The most common style of 2FA is the service provider (e.g. Google) sends a text message to your phone with a unique number that is required for you to sign in. You still need your username and password.
Another style of 2FA is through a “verification code generator app”, which essentially does the same thing but without sending a text message. An example of this type of app is Google Authenticator (available on Android and iOS). This may be useful if you don’t want text messages to be sent, or if you don’t want to use a phone.
The Senate passed two new clubs, the Latin Club and Northern’s Ethics Bowl just 3 days ago. The Latin Club is all about Latin and Roman culture. It also aims to spread awareness about Latin and the Latin course at Northern. Northern’s Ethics Bowl focus on contemporary issues in philosophy and will participate in the Ethics Bowl competition held annually.
Please check out a more detailed description of the clubs and other clubs and associations at the Clubs and Associations page! Also please take a look at the Documents page for the Senate meeting minutes.
We added some updates to the website, including updating the Clubs and Associations page with new Associations and adding a FAQ for common questions and answers with links to other helpful websites like the Northern website. Also, I changed the layout to make it easier to find the info you want faster.
Schools will no longer be opening on April 6th as the province is currently in a state of emergency. A new opening date as not been announced. Click here for more information.
Due to the concerns about COVID-19, all publicly-funded schools in Ontario, including Northern, will be closed starting March 14th until April 5th. As of now, TDSB schools will remain closed for two more weeks after March Break is over. This does not include Friday, March 13 as of 5 PM.
Friday, March 27 is twin day at Northern. Make sure to dress up as twins with someone else. To the left is a cute picture of some twin babies I found on Google.
March break is from March 16 to March 20, so make sure not to come to school for those days.
